History of Islam in this country

 Islam is said to have spread the most in this country from the middle of the 11th century to the 16th century.



Shah Sultan Rumi (r.) (1053 AD / 445 AH) preached Islam in Netrokona and Mymensingh. His shrine is at Madanpur in Netrokona.



Baba Adam Shahid (r.) (1099-118 AD) preached Islam in Bikrampur, Dhaka, Pabna. His shrine is in the courtyard of an ancient mosque in Dargabari village of Munshiganj district.



Shah Sultan Balkhi Mahi Sawar (Rah.) Was one of the best Sufi saints and preachers of Islam in Bengal. He preached Islam in Sandwip, Dhaka and Bogra. His shrine is at Mahasthangarh in Bogra. Although there is disagreement as to when he entered Bengal, it is thought that he entered Bengal in 1204 before the conquest of Bengal by the Turkish military leader Ikhtiyar Uddin Mohammad bin Bakhtiyar Khilji.



Sheikh Farid Uddin Ganjeshkar (r.) (1174-1269 AD) preached Islam in greater Chittagong and Faridpur in Bangladesh. He is well known as Sheikh Fariduddin Chashma in Chittagong and Sheikh Farid in Faridpur. His shrine is in Pathpatan district in the Punjab province of Pakistan.



Sheikh Sharfuddin Abu Tawama (127 AD) preached Islam in and around Sonargaon, the capital of ancient Bengal, at Narayanganj. His mausoleum is in the graveyard near the khanqah and madrasa site in the Dargahbari premises of Mograpara in Sonargaon.



Syed Shah Turkan Shaheed (r.h.) (-128 AD) was the first to spread Islam in Rajshahi. His shrine is at Dargapara in Rajshahi.



Syed Ahmad Tannuri alias Miran Shah (r.) (-1303 AD) played a leading role in the propagation of religion in greater Noakhali. At present the shrine of this saint is located at Kanchanpur village in Ramganj upazila of Laxmipur district.



Syed Nasiruddin Shah Nekmardan (d. 1302 AD) was the oldest preacher of Islam in Dinajpur district. In that area he is known as Syed Nekmardan. His shrine is at Nekmardan village in Dinajpur district.

Makhdum Shah Doulah Shaheed (d. 1306 AD) Makhdum Shah Doulah, a native of Yemen, arrived in the Shahjadpur area of ​​the greater Pabna district. He preached Islam in the greater Pabna and Bogra areas. And he is buried in the cemetery adjacent to the old Shahi Mosque at Shahjadpur in Sirajganj district.

Shah Makhdum Ruposh (d. 1216-1331 AD) was the best preacher of Islam in the greater Rajshahi region. His shrine is at Dargapara in Rajshahi.

Shahjalal Yemeni (r.h.) (1238-1346 AD) spread Islam in the greater Sylhet (Shrihat) region. He was the great Sufi who was the main pioneer of the propagation of Islam in East Bengal. His shrine is located in Sylhet.

Shah Paran (r.h.) participated in the Sylhet expedition with Shahjalal (r.h.'s) niece and Shahjalal (r.h.). Shah Paran played a significant role in propagating Islam and establishing Muslim rule in the Sylhet region.

Syed Ahmad Gechudaraj was one of the disciples of Kalla Shaheed (Rah.) Shahjalal (Rah.). He preached Islam in Comilla and Noakhali areas around Sylhet. His shrine is at Kharampur village in Akhaura, Comilla.

Shahrasti Bogdadi (d. 1238-137 AD) was one of the 12 Auliyas who came to this country from Yemen with Hazrat Shahjalal. Shahrasti Bogdadi (Rah.) Played a leading role in the propagation of religion in the Chandpur region. The shrine of Hazrat Aulia Hazrat Rasti Shah (Rah.) Is located in Sreepur village of Shahrashti municipality under Shahrashti upazila of Chandpur district.

Shah Badr Aulia (-1340 AD) spread Islam in the greater Chittagong region known as the holy land of 12 Auliyas. Among the 12 auliyas, Badr auliya is respected as the chief. His shrine is located in Badarpatti or Badrapati alley near Bakshir Hat in Chittagong.

Notable among the few Sufi saints who played an important role in the propagation of Islam and Sufism in the 15th and 16th centuries were:

Khan Jahan Ali (rh.) (-1459 AD). He is the best preacher of Islam in greater Jessore and Khulna region. His holy shrine is located next to the 80-domed mosque built by Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (ra) in Bagerhat.

Shah Ali Bogdadi (r.h.) (-1496 AD) He preached Islam in the greater Faridpur and Dhaka region. At present his shrine is at Mirpur 1, Dhaka.

Darbesh Shah Jamal (Rah.) Is the best preacher of Islam in Jamalpur district.

 Shah Moazzam Danishmand alias Shah Daulah (Rah.) Preached Islam in the Bagha region of Rajshahi. His shrine is next to the Bagha Shahi Mosque in Rajshahi.

Sayyid Shah Niyamtullah But-Saken (Rah.) Preached Islam in the adjoining areas of Dhaka city. His shrine is located at Dilkusha in Dhaka.

Syed Shah Noor (r.) (1461-156 AD) propagated Islam in the greater Rajshahi region. His mausoleum is next to the mausoleum of Shah Makhdum Ruposh (Rah.) At Dargapara in Rajshahi.

khwaja Sharfuddin Chishti (-1569 AD) He propagated Islam in the greater Dhaka region. His shrine is next to the Dhaka High Court.


Among the few Sufi saints who played an important role in the propagation of Islam and Sufism in the 16th and 17th centuries 

AD was Ali Shahan Shah Adam Kashmiri (d. 1813). He spread Islam in Kortia (Atia) area of ​​Tangail district. His mausoleum is located near the famous Atiya Mosque in Tangail.

Syed Shah Neyamat Ullah (r.h.) (-179 AD) was one of the Pir Auliyas who preached Islam in Bengal in the seventeenth century. His mausoleum is located next to the historic three-domed mosque and Tohkhana at Firozpur in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.

Shah Amanat (r.h.) (-184 AD) spread Islam in the greater Chittagong region. His shrine is located on the east side of Laldighi in Chittagong.

Shah Sufi Sayyid Muhammad Dayem (r.) (-1700 AD) was the founder of Azimpur Sessions Sharif. He propagated Islam in the greater Dhaka region. Apart from Dhaka, there are many devotees of this court in different districts of Bangladesh. His shrine is in Dhaka Azimpur Sessions Sharif.

Hazrat Ali Abdul Quader Syed Shah Murshid Ali Al Qadri alias Maula Pak (1852-1901 AD) was one of the few Sufis who played an important role in the propagation of Islam and Sufism in the 19th and 20th centuries AD. He spread Islam in Rajbari, Faridpur, Pabna and Dhaka areas of East Bengal.Apart from India, there are many devotees of Medinipur Dargah Sharif in different districts of Bangladesh. His shrine is in Midnapore district of West Bengal.

Shah Sufi Syed Ahmad Ullah Maizbhandari (r.) (1826-1906 AD) was the founder of Maizbhandar Durbar Sharif. Apart from greater Chittagong, there are many devotees of this court in different districts of Bangladesh. His shrine is at Maizbhandar Darbar Sharif in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong. Jansharif Shah Sureshwari (r.) (1858-1919 AD)Founder of Sureshwar Sessions Sharif in Shariatpur District. His shrine is at Sureshwar Sessions Sharif. Through these saints, Islam spread in Bengal.
