The Dargah of Hazrat Shah Makhdum (RA) is located at Dargahpara in the main city of Rajshahi. Hazrat Shah Makhdum Ruposh was a descendant of Hazrat Ali. Barapir Hazrat Abdur Qadir Jilani is his own grandfather.
The Dargah of Hazrat Shah Makhdum (RA) is called Mazar or Dargah because it is located next to the tomb of Hazrat Shah Makhdum Rupas (RA). He preached Islam in Rajshahi region. It is said that he came to Rajshahi sitting on the back of a crocodile. There are many crocodiles in the lake next to the shrine of Shah Makhdum.
The western zone headquarters of Bangladesh Railway is located in this district. "Silk City Express", "Padma Express" and "Dhumketu Express" run from Dhaka to Rajshahi. There are also intercity, mail and local trains from Rajshahi to Khulna and other parts of the country.
The airport, named after the Islamic saint Hazrat Shah Makhdum (RA), is located a short distance from the city of Rajshahi. It operates domestic routes from Dhaka and Syedpur.
